HCS Case Study 4 - Royal Shrewsbury Hospital
CHP and Boiler during installation RSH is a 424 bed Medium Acute hospital, comprising a range of mainly inefficient buildings from 1090’s to more recent developments. HCS developed this project through free Carbon Trust Studies and a Community Energy Programme (CEP) Development grant. A CEP 24% Capital Grant of £ 547 K was obtained towards the cost of a major Energy Systems Infrastructure upgrading project including: new steam boilers, 1 MW CHP. absorption cooling, BEMS replacement and extensive LTHW and CHW distribution systems. The scheme was delivered through a fully funded Performance Contract with off balance sheet benefits and a net annual cash release of £ 780 K

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust are now developing a further contract at Princess Royal Hospital, using a combination of NHS Grant and Supplier Finance, managed by HCS. This follows years of involvement by HCS at PRH, firstly with the installation of a gas turbine in the early 90's and conversion from coal in the late 90's - all using PPP capital
